My name is Simon Jones, and this blog is all about wine. Owing to some formative experiences in southwest Germany during the 1997 growing season, my specialist subject – if you can call it that – is German wine. From 2009 to early 2016, this particular leaning found expression in a blog called From Blackpool to Basel.
Why “winetext”? Well, to coin a well-known advertising slogan on UK television, this blog does exactly what it says on the tin. Years back, I began writing my original blog firstly as a means of occupational therapy, secondly in order to document my various first-hand encounters with wine on an ongoing basis. This pastime has since developed into a labour of love, as it were. Although I am fond of my original blog title, I felt it was time for a title that was more relevant to the subject matter. Et voilà.
Happy reading.
I’m sure your writing will still be of the same high standard, and always interesting!!

Hi Simon! I love the clean design! Congrats to a new start!
Live is exactly that: always changing, and so are we – so how could we stay with the same blog for ever? I experienced a bit of the same as you: my first blog (written in English) was just after wine school in Sweden, where I wanted to keep track of the wines I was about to discover, so why not share those with the world, was my thought. Then we moved to Germany and I decided that it would be better to start a German blog. My motivation was to get to know a few people within the wine business in the area I had moved (back) to : Pfalz. Now, a couple of years later I have increased my network considerably and now I am also wondering what to do next and how…
However, I am glad I found your new blog and will be gladly following it!
Cheers Simon

Hi Heike,
Thanks for the lovely message! And thanks for following my blog. I’m a big fan of your blog, by the way – all the more so because I love the (Wein-)Pfalz and always try to visit at least once or twice a year!
And yes, life is always changing..!
Liebe Grüsse aus Basel

So nice to hear! If you’d like to meet, please get in touch. I’d be happy to take you to a winery or two :). We were in Switzerland last week. Always like it there too. We were in the Lipperwil area this time. All the best & Cheers
